my name is becky coatsworth, and i'm a licensed acupuncturist and licensed massage therapist. i was introduced to holistic medicine as a teenager and haven't looked back since. i have my mom to thank for exposing me to great healthcare practitioners such as chiropractors and naturopaths and the importance of a healthy diet in overall health from a very young age.
i don't do anything in life unless i feel great passion for it. during my undergraduate coursework, while wondering what i was going to do with my life, i took a seminar course titled 'overview of alternative medicine.' it was life changing. it exposed me to the various types of professions that existed in natural medicine and i was ecstatic about all the possibilities, knowing that i had finally stumbled onto a path with direction and purpose.
and so the journey began...
i often say that massage was a 'happy accident' because i earned my associate of applied science in therapeutic massage at rainstar university in order to enter their acupuncture program. attending massage school in 2002-2003 was the best thing that could've ever happened! it was a gateway to discovering how dynamic, intricate and truly remarkable the human body is. having had a lifelong passion for dance and fitness, massage opened the door to a greater understanding of the science behind movement and function. it laid the foundation for understanding how vital musculoskeletal health is to overall health.
in 2005, i began my study of traditional chinese medicine at phoenix institute of herbal medicine & acupuncture, completing with a masters degree in acupuncture in 2010. in 2009, i was fortunate enough to travel to china to receive advanced training in acupuncture and tui-na. during my training and in my practice i quickly realized that my passion lies in treating musculoskeletal pain/dysfunction along with depression and anxiety. having struggled with depression from a young age, it has been my mission to find a natural solution and i have. this has further fueled my desire to help others find a natural solution to what they are experiencing in their lives.
one of my favorite aspects of chinese medicine is that it is a perfect combination of science and art. it has been successfully used for more than 2,000 years and i have seen incredible results with acupuncture and oriental medicine in treating a broad spectrum of disease and it is especially effective as preventative medicine. i am happy to see a wave of change in the way that people look at their own healthcare. our healthcare system is broken and i am dedicated to being an advocate for my patients health. helping to empower them to be proactive about their health and to demand a higher standard for healthcare overall.
this is how i see it...when you have a healthy body and a healthy mind, everything else falls into place. i am here to help you to get from where you are to where you want to be and we will do it as a team.
